Rhilya, The Verdant Tyrant
Backstory of Rhilya
Rhilya was the second born of her brood, and her first conscious act as a wyrmling was to slay and consume her unnamed older brother, who had been born blind. Afterward, she slaughtered the rest of the clutch of eggs, instinctually absorbing their souls and empowering herself as a draconic sorcerer. These heinous actions were applauded by her father, who had done the same to his brood some 1,000 years prior.
Raised by her father for the first ten years of her life, Rhilya learned to control her magics and began the practice of poison-making, something that she would later master as an adult. However, her teaching would not last long as Rhilya's father was slain by a party of adventurers who sought the riches of the dragon's hoard. Only through her arcane magics was the young wyrm able to cloak herself in invisibility and make a hasty escape.
Departing the forests of her youth, Rhilya swore vengeance upon the mortal races and wished to make someone suffer the way she had in her childhood. Thus, she fled to the woods of the Nettle Valley and settled several miles from the sleepy, isolated village of Welton. It was there she studied the humans and elves, learning their cultures, strengths, and weaknesses. For generations, she haunted the woods, seeding the ground around her lair with all manner of mutated plantlife and draconic spawn, consuming livestock and wild animals alike to slake her growing hunger, until after six centuries, she launched her first solo attack on the village. Slaughtering the peaceful townsfolk and screeching with glee as they choked upon her poisons, Rhilya gave no quarter until only a handful of residents survived.
Seeing them as they saw the cattle they bred, Rhilya enslaved the populace and commanded them to reproduce before she would cull them every ten years after, reducing the population to no more than 200. This process continued for nigh on a century, with the populace slowly growing, only to be reduced to more manageable numbers on the anniversary of the first slaughter. Isolated from the greater world and unable to escape as Rhilya crafted the forests around the village into her personal domain, the people slowly devolved into a culture of pseudo-worship of the one they referred to as the Verdant Tyrant.
Eventually, Rhilya would meet the young emerald dragon Altherion and enslave the youthful drake, seducing him and forcing him to assist her in creating her clutches of eggs. However, after the third clutch, Altherion escaped his bonds, but rather than flee, he set about killing his bastard children in a rage before Rhilya tore him to pieces, leaving only a single wyrmling named Astenor left, whom Rhilya forced to feast on the flesh of his father. The tragedy of losing her precious children weighed heavy on Rhilya, and slowly she grew to madness.
Now, with her domain secure the steady supply of food coming in the form of villagers, Rhilya is raising her only son to become her next consort, a fate that the tender-hearted young drake, who inherited the soul of his father upon eating his body, seeks to avoid at any cost, seeing the insanity of his mother and wishing to be free of her tyrannical influence.
Roleplay:
Rhilya is unhinged but still incredibly intelligent and rules her domain with an iron fist. She does not suffer intruders into her domain. Her cultists see outsiders as potential sacrifices and offer them freely to their capricious master. Rhilya has no issue with wholesale slaughter and seeks to expand her domain to other towns around the globe, where her brood can have their cattle in the future. She is shrewd, evil, temperamental, and relies on her talents as a sorceress equally as much as she relies on the toughness of her scales and virulent dragon's breath.
